Unwanted, Malicious and Threatening Phone Calls

Harassment, Threatening or Malicious Phone Calls

If you receive a call with a threat to life or property, please immediately contact Police by dialing Emergency 000.

All other calls of this nature that are not an emergency should be reported to police.  Police will seek information from yourself and will obtain the necessary records from Binary Networks

Spam or Unwanted Calls

BINARY NETWORKS will attempt to resolve an unwelcome call issue directly before directing the end user to refer the matter to the Police. However, you may report the matter to the Police at any time.

Consider the following:

  1. Hang up on the caller immediately;
  2. Use an answering machine or voicemail to screen callers;
  3. Use calling number display to screen and control calls;
  4. If calls are from a facsimile machine, divert the calls to a fax machine to assist in identifying the calling fax; and
  5. Change your telephone number number and have the new number unlisted in the directory.
  6. Sign up to the “Do not call register” – http://www.donotcall.gov.au/

We have the facility to block incoming calls based on the caller ID of the calling party. You may activate this feature at any time by contacting us.

If the above solutions are not suitable and the issue persists on a regular basis:

  1. Keep detailed records of at least 3 calls received including the date, time, approximate duration, and any content of the calls.
  2. Forward the calls details to our support team who will attempt to identify the calling party’s (A-party’s) number. We will not release this information to you if the call is anonymous.
  3. Once the A-party has been identified, the A-party’s carriage service provider will send them a warning letter.
  4. If the calls do not cease within 14 days, the customer should advise our support team who in turn will advise the A-party’s carriage service provider to send a second warning letter.
  5. In cases where the calls still continue, then the end user should contact the Police for further action.
  6. Binary Networks will make all records available to assist the Police in the investigation of the matter.
