NBN Installation Charges

What is a NBN Subsequent Install?

NBNCo Subsequent installation charges apply to premises that connect to the NBN over FTTN (Fibre to the Node), FTTB (Fibre to the Basement) or FTTC (Fibre to the Curb).  In these scenarios, a phone line is used to connect your property to the NBN.  If you do not have an available phone line ready to connect to the NBN, a subsequent install charge will apply.

This charge is levied by NBNCo to cover the cost of site visit, labour and materials for installing a new connection to the property.

This is NOT a charge that is levied by Binary Networks directly.

NBN may also levy this charge if a working NBN service already exists at the property and an additional connection is required (exceeding the 1 per customer ratio)

What is a NBN New Development Charge?

This charge is levied by NBNCo in new housing estates or building developments where NBNCo is being connected for the first time.

nbn™Co may charge the new development fee to cover the cost of deploying network infrastructure to new premises or dwellings. This fee may be applied to each premises requiring a nbn™ connection. This includes, but is not limited to, new dwellings, lots under reconstruction, lots without any existing infrastructure, and buildings requiring a new mailing address.

This is a once-off charge and will not be charged again for subsequent connections, provided the number of dwellings/premises at that address has not increased.

When are these charges applied?

Typically these charges are shown on your first or second bill however in some cases, there may be a delay in applying this charge. For example, if your NBN connection is delayed or your invoicing is delayed (or there is some other processing issue). In some  extreme circumstances these charges may not be shown for up to six (6) months from the date of your first bill.
