Microsoft Teams – BinaryVoice Setup Guide

These instructions will assist you in setting up a BinaryVoice SIP Trunk on Office365 Teams Environment. These instructions are suitable for Native SIP trunk scenarios. If you are looking for a Hybrid voice solution, please contact customer service.  Please note that the setup of your teams environment is outside the scope of our work however where possible we have provided guidance below.

 

Order a BinaryVoice Teams SIP Trunk

  • Speak to our sales team to order a BinaryVoice SIP Trunk (Teams Compatible)
  • Once your order is completed, note the SBC Partition Name and the telephone numbers assigned to your service.

 

Add the SBC Partition Name to your Office365 Domain

  1. In the Microsoft 365 admin center, choose Setup.
  2. Under Get your custom domain set up, select View.
  3. Choose Manage Add domain.
  4. Enter the new domain name that you want to add.  This will be the SBC partition name (e.g. customer12345.teams-sbc.binaryvoice.com.au) and then select Next.
  5. You will be prompted to verify the domain name you have entered.  Select DNS Validation
  6. Copy the verification record. Do not press Verify
  7. Contact our service delivery team and provide the verification record.
  8. Once the service delivery team has confirmed creation of the record. Click Verify.
  9. If you are prompted to add DNS records, click Skip and do this later  and Click Continue
  10. Click Finish.

 

Assigning a User

  1. Microsoft will not activate the new domain name until a new user has been assigned to it.
  2. Create a new user and assign to this new domain. If this new domain does not appear as an option ensure it appears in your verified domains list.
  3. The domain will not activate without a license assigned. This license can even be reassigned temporarily from another user if a spare license is not available.
  4. Click next to complete the user setup.

(Note: Verified domains may take several hours to be come ready to assign to users)

 

Creating a Trunk

  1. Under Teams Admin centre, click Voice > Direct Routing
  2. Under the SBC tab click Add
  3. Add your SBC partition name and complete the settings as shown:
  4. Click Save at the bottom of the page

Note: The trunk might take up to 48 hours to activate in the Microsoft Teams environment

 

Complete your setup

  1. If you are giving each user their own DID/telephone number, Assign phone numbers to each user using Powershell or the Legacy Skype/Lync Administration Console
  2. Complete the configuration of your Dial Plan, Voice Routing Policy, Calling Policies, Voice Routes
  3. Setup your users
  4. Assign the trunk to the correct Voice Route

 

Notes on Dial Plans

  1. Calls should be passed to the SIP trunk in either E164 e.g.. 61XYYYYYYYY  (11 digits) or FNN format 0XYYYYYYYY (10 digits)
  2. Calls less than 10 digits will be rejected.
